[OPEN POST] SNEAKY X-MEN TEAM

Characters: Bobby, Kitty, Julian, anyone feasible.
Setting: Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Awesometown.

SECOND IMPORTANT NOTE: It's been nearly a day since John has disappeared, along with Logan. There are whispers and rumors floating around school that John has left for the Brotherhood again and Logan has followed to skewer him. ~~Some people say they ran away together to fall in love and join the circus though.~~ Keep it in mind!

[Bobby gazes at Julian a moment, considering his words. When he speaks, his voice is flat and even. Only his expression betrays how concerned he is, how serious this matter is.]

John's gone back to the Brotherhood as a mole. Logan's out there to keep an eye out. Emma's not happy about this whole plan, so she's sending me out with a small team for backup. I want you on that team.

[Julian's brows raise at this: high. He leans in, looking back to Rogue's door again. He's not sure what confuses him more - why the hell Bobby's asking him or why John, who always seemed to Julian like a slimy self-important weasel, would put his life on the line for anyone. And yeah maybe he feels a flash of envy and confusion that Emma went to Bobby, but he expels it. Bobby's an X-man. Why wouldn't she?]

Nobody else knows? [He means Ali, obviously, but doesn't voice it.] When do we leave?

I'm going to talk to Kitty; I want her with us. But beyond her and Emma, nobody knows, not even Logan.

[Bobby is somewhat... relieved that Julian is on board so quickly. He knew that he would agree - Julian is always prepared for a mission, and that's something Bobby appreciates - but he had maybe expected more questions.]

Emma wants to brief us once I've gotten Kitty on board. We're leaving straight after that. Got a lot of ground to cover.

[Oh, Julian has questions. They're coming. He simply nods at the reassurance that nobody knows, listens intently to the rest. Him, Kitty, Bobby. Small, effective team. But against the Brotherhood? Julian looks to the ground for a short second.]

We're not a lot of people for an entire Brotherhood, Iceman. And why just me? Rogue has just as much experience, more even.

[Okay. Yeah, this is what Bobby had been expecting.]

It's a covert operation. Too many people would slow us down, open up more risks. Yeah, we aren't a lot of people, but we'll be able to hold our own and get our people out of there.

As for Rogue... [He presses his lips together before he responds to Julian's second question. He figures Julian's not going to like this one - he's not even sure he likes it. Bobby chooses his words carefully.]

Look. I chose you and Kitty because I believe we'll make the most efficient team with the least liabilities. Jono, Ali, Josh - they've all got too little experience or too much of an emotional connection. And Rogue... she's more than capable, I know. But the issues she has with Magneto, the problems she's been having with the psyches... it's a big risk. And there is no room for error here.

[Jono, Ali, Josh... he can understand those decisions. He would have sooner went all by himself then ask Ali or Jono along, if Julian were in Bobby's shoes.

But at the mention of Rogue, and Magneto, and the psyches, Julian deflates the tiniest bit, bows his head. He leans against the arm bracing himself on the wall. He knew Bobby's answers already; he realizes he asked them only to confirm what's for the best here. And Julian also realizes, with Rogue there and perhaps facing Magneto... he might be just as emotionally compromised.

The moment lasts no more than two seconds, and then Julian lifts his head again, his resolve set and reinforced despite the apprehension swirling in his gut - because it might be a good idea to not tell Rogue everything about this, not until after.]

No, you're right. It's a good call. I'll suit up. Where are we meeting?

[Bobby catches that moment, can recognise the emotions flickering just below the surface. He says nothing nor gives any indication that he noticed, instead giving a curt nod.]

I've still got to talk to Kitty. Emma will be in touch with us once I've gotten her on board.

[Bobby gets an identical curt nod in return; Julian takes a few steps back, his eyes already pensive and back on the floor.] I'll see you then. [He turns then, reaches for the knob but pauses for a steadying breath. He's still not quite sure what he's going to say, but he opens the door anyway and reenters the room.]

[Rogue looks up from her books as he shuts the door behind him, raising an eyebrow curiously.] What was that all about, sugah?

[Hand still on the doorknob, his eyes lock with hers.] I, uh. I gotta go. [He says the words solemnly - they are weighted, clearly weighted with heavier meaning. There's a pause and then Julian starts forward to Rogue's dresser, reaching for his phone and wallet to pocket.]

[She narrows her eyes, the entire situation not sitting right with her. Within moments, she's swung her legs off the bed and is standing beside him, grabbing his wrist as he reaches for his wallet.] Julian, what's going on?

[Of course it's not sitting right; it's hardly sitting right for Julian either. He wish he could say her touch makes him pause, but it doesn't. He merely gently moves it away from her, reaches back to slip the leather into his jeans.

But he does turn slightly to face her, looking to the floor between them. Then he lifts his eyes.]

I can't tell you, I just gotta go. Trust me, sweetheart.

[He cradles her head, leaning down to kiss her hair, and starts walking back towards the door, the look in his eyes imploring her to understand and accept what he's saying.]

I'll be back.

[She raises an eyebrow.] What's so important that you can't tell me? [The longer this conversation goes on, the more she doesn't like it. The more the entire situation bothers her. The more this whole damned week bothers her.]

[Julian's not one to be intimidated easily, but the discontent look she's pinning him with - that makes him pause on the way to the door.

His mouth opens, and for a moment nothing comes out. He wants to tell her; looking at her frustrated and expectant expression now he knows he should. Shame fills him; she deserves the truth. Especially about this. He just doesn't want to hurt her. Doesn't want her to put her in any danger.]

Look... It's a covert mission. Back-up. [There's a stilted pause.] Apparently the terrorist went in to get Kevin back. [He licks his lips after, watches her for a reaction. It's only been rumor that Kevin went to the Brotherhood, and even then a hushed one hardly anyone dared to utter, only think.] We're leaving any moment.

Oh. [The other eyebrow shoots up in surprise as he hints at what's happening. Then she puts two and two together and grits her teeth for a moment. Maybe she shouldn't have been so quick to believe Logan yesterday. She tries not to let any of these thoughts show on her face though, succeeding for the most part. There's a lot of things she wants to say right now but she settles for one of the more mild ones.] I take it Bobby's a part of this too.

And Kitty. [The answers spills out of him; he lets out a heavy sigh and bows his head. His fingers reach to push over his hair, tug at the crown of it gently - it's an agitated habit and he can't help it.

He looks back up, takes a step closer. He hasn't even gotten to the part that would matter something more to her - whether she has information enough to figure it out herself, he doesn't know.]

Logan's with Allerdyce.

I already figured that out.

[Her lips have just become a thin line and she shoves her hands into her back pockets in an effort to refrain from curling them into fists. She's starting to wonder if it'd be better if Julian could've kept the secret. If nothing else, she'd be far less inclined to head down to the DR right now.]

[This was it. This was what he wanted to avoid by not telling her - as strong as she is, Julian knows that her anger is an incarnation of a deeper kind of pain and worry; she's upset. He swallows past his dry throat and moves forward, his arm tentatively dropping, hand slowly resting on her shoulder. He wants to pull her against him and embrace, will try if she allows this touch.]

Sweetheart...

[She shrugs off his hand, taking a step backwards. There's an attempt to force her expression back to neutral but that only works so well.] You've got a mission to prep for. Go.

[The shrug and that step back feel like a knife in the gut; her words almost worse. His hand drops slowly and then he flexes it, curls into a fist to keep from reaching for her again. He wants to stay, he wants to work this out, but as painful as her words are, they're true.

Julian sets his jaw; the hurt on his expression giving way to resolution. Still, he lingers another moment, searches her eyes with his. He can't leave without saying something, telling her how much she means to him; what if there's no coming back?]

Rogue...

[The more he tries to make this better, the worse it gets. Julian hasn't told her that much but just enough that it's possible she's making one or two wrong assumptions. Regardless, the last thing she wants right now is to talk or to deal with anything of the romantic sort.] Sugah, just go. You said you're leaving real soon which means you've got things to take care of first so go.

[The more she tells him to leave, the worse the pain over this is. He takes in a shaky, deep breath, lets it out, the look in his eyes charged and full and significant. Is it possible that she can see how he feels, what she means to him just by looking? Something that feels nearly outside of himself nudges him forward; he takes another step, lifts a tentative hand slowly to just touch the ends of a soft curl.]

I'll come back with him. [He doesn't elaborate; he means Logan, and he assumed she knows that. Then he turns to leave.]
