[open log] Leadership Camp!

Characters: Everyone and some people who we’re pretending exist in canon
Setting: The Danger Room
Content: There’s no I in Team when you’re taking down a Sentinel.
Status: Open and incomplete.
Notes: In order to get some vaguely even numbers, Kayt and Bria decided to throw some NPCs in there. If you have one on your team, make use of them! They won’t bite. Besides that, everyone just have fun with this! Kick some shiny metal ass!

By now, the students had definitely learned to be apprehensive when Emma and Logan were waiting for them in the Danger Room with those amused smirks.

“We’ll be doing something a bit different today and possibly for some of the foreseeable future. You’ll be split into teams of four to take on a Sentinel,” Emma greeted the students calmly despite how drastically they were changing the morning sessions.

“Some of you have shown your stuff as leaders, some of you can follow orders well. All of you need to exercise your ability to do both. We’ve split you up into four teams, each team will be delegated a leader for the session. If you are a leader, you will lead. If you are not,” Logan’s eyes fell heavily on a few choice students, “you will follow orders.”

“Those of you who are not a part of the current simulation will observe from the control room and take note of what works and what does not works for the other teams. You may find this useful for your own runs.”

“Keep tight, work together. Leadership is not about taking the glory for yourself,” another pointed look at more choice students, “following orders is not about letting someone else do the hard work. If you have any ideas about showboating or dragging ass there will be consequences.” As if he wasn’t clear enough, Logan illustrated his point with an ominous sound that every student understood: ’SNIKT

[Rogue gives Elixir enough cover to get to them, focusing on causing what damage she can as he works. She has the hang of the 'hot and hard' waves now and it gives her time to get a better look at the Senintels attacking them. As Josh finishes, she offers a hand up to Ali, already talking as she does.] Dazzler, they're weakest at the head joint. If we can hit that one at the same time... [She lets her voice trail off as she points towards a particular Sentinel, the one Ali'd hit before.]

[Unsurprisingly, there's really no need to worry about the one Laura's got--she'd jumped onto the Sentinel, and like any good assassin, knew its weak point almost immediately, climbing up its chest with her claws. The hunk of junk knew she was there, of course, its metal hands taking turns reaching for her, trying to squash her, but Laura moved fast: slicing at its fingers, jumping spryly and dodging it until she all but disappeared at its neck. Then the only thing to do was make quick, efficient work of detaching its head.

Which she did, and then slid down the thing's huge arm just in time for it to fall headfirst and hit the floor with a deafening thud. And right next to Rogue and Ali.
]

Rogue is correct.

[With Josh's extra boost and a pretty easy tactical plan, Ali's feeling bold. She grins, devious like, and is ready to hit the sentinel with the heavy artillery. Cracking her knuckles, she squints at the sentinel.] Elixir, you and '23 get yourselves under it, Josh, give Laura a leg up in case we can't get the head joint to give, and then get lost--don't want you getting squished. Rogue, photon pulses alone might not take it out, so you keep with those and I'll add something with a little extra punch. [Ali's fingertip lights up, glowing hot and red, and she tests the thin laser beam on some rubble nearby, cutting cleanly through it. She nods to herself, satisfied, and returns her attention to the team.]

Let's put this thing to bed and go have a beer.

[Rogue never takes her eyes off of their target, hands starting to glow as she calls up some stronger photon pulses. At Ali's go-order, she lets loose with the pulses, completely focused upon the task at hand. Too focused, however, to notice one of the other Sentinels moving into attack. Moments later, she finds her previous focus completely gone as the Sentinels hits her hard enough with a energy blast in the shoulder to knock her backwards and off of her feet.]

[It takes a split second for Ali to react, but it's long enough for her to watch Rogue fly backward and into a pile of rubble. Looking up, eyes panicked for a moment, Ali hardens the wall of light she's holding up, trying to manipulate the shield so the blasts she's deflecting ricochet back to damage the sentinel dealing them out. It's not as easy as it looks, and she has to call out to warn Laura and Josh to watch their backs.]

Rogue, you okay? [Ali edges closer to her, sparing what attention she can to check out if her teammate's injured. There's nothing she can see at a glance, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to be worried about. Her fingers extend to the other girl and Ali nods, the invitation for Rogue to take an extra power boost present but unspoken.] Need a hand?

[The hit's bad enough to mean she'll be near useless in any hand to hand but not bad enough to take her out of the fight. She's more angry at herself for getting hit at all than necessarily injured.] I'll live. [She pulls off a glove and accepts the hand up, letting go as soon as she's standing again and only taking what she absolutely needs from the other girl. There's a nod as she replaces her glove, indicating that she's good to go again.] Thanks.
