Laura did not understand why Megan wanted to be her friend.

Friendships were based on two things, as far as Laura had observed. Mutual interests and proximity. Laura didn't dislike Meg. She was kind and simple. Logan had called her "chatty." But Laura had yet to find an interest that coincided with hers.

She was thinking of this--her hands clutching a leather biker jacket and blinking at Meg's rapidly moving lips--as she stood in the mall. Logan was correct.
