Content: It's Thanksgiving for all you American folks, so let's celebrate and be thankful!
Status: It's the US OPEN! WHOOO!


It's thanksgiving weekend. Anyone who hasn't gone home to their family is milling about. The faculty has sprung for an enormous bird and all the fixings, with some student volunteers to help out with preparations. Dinner is around 6ish, possibly later.

Post here with any and all Thanksgiving related activities you desire. Tell people who you're thankful for, gorge yourself of foodstuffs, get excessive with your shopping, do the hokey pokey with a native american headdress. Just have fun! Logan, like me, is probably somewhere grousing about how Thanksgiving was back in October, but (like me) he's not going to complain about a turkey dinner do-over!

[Josh nods, and then speaks a little cynically.] Yep, guess we're all we got, now.

[A sigh, and then his tone is a bit lighter. He pats the seat next to him.]

Come on. Make a turkey with me.

[Laura sits where he gestures, smiling a little as she picks up a piece of construction paper. She places her hand on it, fingers splayed, and looks up to Josh, silently asking for a marker.]

[Josh grins at her, and hands her the box while he starts on his own turkey. The little kids surrounding them don't find anything about that odd, but Josh is sure that if any of his classmates saw them, they'd start laughing.]

I can't draw.

[She feels a bit of laughter inside at his boyish, wide grin and his confession. Laura's already tracing her hand with a black marker, and not perfectly so either, since she's doing it on her lap.]

I have never really tried before.

[Soon they're both laughing over the drawings, and the silly things that the little kids are saying and arguing about. Then Josh shows her his crudely-drawn and pasted-together turkey. Even the little kids' ones look better than his. He smiles and looks a little embarrassed.]

[Then, while Laura's attention is not on him, he looks away and sort of groans to himself. Ugh, what am I doing?! he thinks. Then he ponders what a bad friend he's being to Bobby.]

[Laura's surprised to be given Josh's masterpiece of a turkey, but something in her warms at the gesture, and she takes it with a curious smile, tilting her head to the side as she looks up at him.]

Thank you. [She says this sincerely, and then a little kid is tugging at Josh's pants leg, and he's looked away. Laura picks up the glue and to paste her turkey to paper, her hands sticky with the residue. Then she picks up a pen.

When she's done, she turns to Josh and taps his shoulder, holding her turkey out.]

[Josh is starting to hate that he likes that she tapped him. Okay, okay, enough of this, he says to himself. Then he sees the turkey and the small smile on her face. He bursts out laughing.]

Aww, thanks, Laur.

[He doesn't quite know how he should act now. All he knows is that he shouldn't be flirting with the pretty-much-girlfriend-already of a good friend of his, so he tries a different tactic. He waves at the kids who are still drawing at the table and shows them the turkey.]

Look, guys! Isn't it awesome? You guys can draw one as good as this one, right?

[Laura turns her faint smile to the crowd of kids, who are hollering at Josh that they can and they will! Some are even claiming theirs are already better. The uprising against her turkey is entertaining, and she peeks up, sidelong at Josh, feeling that same warmth when his eyes meet hers. If this is what having a real friend feels like, she would like to keep feeling it. She is having fun.]

[Josh and Laura have a very brief moment where they glance at each and laugh, and then their attention is turned back to the kids. Josh is having a heated argument now with one of the kids. The younger child is telling Josh that his turkey, which Laura is still holding, is ugly, and Josh is trying to defend his honor, in true litte-kid fashion: by having a "Nuh-uh!" "Uh-HUH!" fight. Josh is pretty thankful for the distraction.]

[Laura watches this exchange curiously, her head tilting to the side. It's strange, but she likes it. It is... playful. She watches Josh's expression, how it contorts and mimics the child's smaller expression. She leans in towards Josh, leans forward towards the child to interrupt.]

I like both turkeys.

Aw, see, now there's a solution. I think this might be why girls are better baby-sitters than boys. [Josh says this to the kid, and frowns. Because when Laura turned her back to look at some other kids' drawings, the one he was fighting with stuck his tongue out at him.]
