[open log] Leadership Camp!
Characters: Everyone and some people who we’re pretending exist in canon
Setting: The Danger Room
Content: There’s no I in Team when you’re taking down a Sentinel.
Status: Open and incomplete.
Notes: In order to get some vaguely even numbers, Kayt and Bria decided to throw some NPCs in there. If you have one on your team, make use of them! They won’t bite. Besides that, everyone just have fun with this! Kick some shiny metal ass!
By now, the students had definitely learned to be apprehensive when Emma and Logan were waiting for them in the Danger Room with those amused smirks.
“We’ll be doing something a bit different today and possibly for some of the foreseeable future. You’ll be split into teams of four to take on a Sentinel,” Emma greeted the students calmly despite how drastically they were changing the morning sessions.
“Some of you have shown your stuff as leaders, some of you can follow orders well. All of you need to exercise your ability to do both. We’ve split you up into four teams, each team will be delegated a leader for the session. If you are a leader, you will lead. If you are not,” Logan’s eyes fell heavily on a few choice students, “you will follow orders.”
“Those of you who are not a part of the current simulation will observe from the control room and take note of what works and what does not works for the other teams. You may find this useful for your own runs.”
“Keep tight, work together. Leadership is not about taking the glory for yourself,” another pointed look at more choice students, “following orders is not about letting someone else do the hard work. If you have any ideas about showboating or dragging ass there will be consequences.” As if he wasn’t clear enough, Logan illustrated his point with an ominous sound that every student understood: ’SNIKT

Re: Team 3: Iceman, Wither, Pyro, Cannonball
I need you to help me take that thing down if Wither can't do enough damage. Superheat then supercool the metal. Cannonball can give it one hit and it should be brittle enough to smash.
[He turns to Kevin.] I don't know how much of that thing you'll be able to decay. Maybe nothing. If it doesn't work, see what you can do to slow them down. Use the terrain.
[The simulation is set somewhere not entirely unlike the grounds of the mansion - there's a body of water a reasonable distance away, some trees here and there, plenty of open space, and a few buildings behind them.]
Re: Team 3: Iceman, Wither, Pyro, Cannonball
Hey! Come blast a hole through the concrete here! I need to get at what's underneath before I can do any good at all.
[Concrete and asphalt are always the barrier between Kevin and usefulness in these situations. He makes a mental note to see if Forge can get him some sort of blaster that will cut through them easily, but for now, Cannonball does the trick: a fast and dirty hit that leaves a crater amidst a cloud of dust and sediment. Kevin's in there before it clears, his hands digging through the debris to find soil, rich and organic beneath. He sets to work, a wide radius of pressure cracks appearing under the immense weight of the sentinel as it walks across the unsupported pavement.]
Re: Team 3: Iceman, Wither, Pyro, Cannonball
Pyro, get that thing superheated. Wither, Cannonball - keep the other two distracted while we deal with this one.
[The two newer-model sentinels have cottoned on to the plan and are speeding towards them. He knows that it'll take John a few minutes to superheat all that metal; they need to give him some time before Bobby can take over. Bobby leaps up onto an ice slide, heading straight towards one of the sentinels. Sam is beside him, heading for the other one - he overtakes Bobby and lands a mighty blow, pushing the sentinel back.
Bobby, in turn, moves quickly, deftly weaving around the other Sentinel. He's pushing himself - these things are much faster than the older models, and he has a few very narrow misses. He begins shooting ice at it, aiming for the head, building up enough to temporarily blind the thing.]
Re: Team 3: Iceman, Wither, Pyro, Cannonball
Still, he takes a readying step towards the Sentinel, the side of his mouth pulling up into a smirk as he ignites the catches on his wrists, fire exploding into his palms. It's freeing and fills him with more life than he's felt in awhile. He lifts his hands and gets to work, aiming tall, hungry streams of flames at the Sentinel's face and torso. Thankfully, its legs are buried, but its arms are moving; John has to dodge those if he gets too close.]
Re: Team 3: Iceman, Wither, Pyro, Cannonball
Pyro, pull back, see what kind of damage you can do to those newer models. I'll take over here.
[Bobby skids expertly off his slide and into place near John, hands already up, cooling the air around him. The heat is intense and it saps his energy; he has to concentrate hard and draw on the moisture from the lake. Soon it's cool enough for him to really start blasting the sentinel with ice. He looks briefly over his shoulder and yells to Sam.]
On my signal!
Re: Team 3: Iceman, Wither, Pyro, Cannonball
Hey, Wither! You wanna give a guy some back-up?
[Fire ignites in his palms and he waits until Kevin's caught up with him a little, smirking at his friend.]
I'll provide the fire, you take some of the heat.
here, see, I can torture all your kids equally.
Of course, his eyes spot only too late the fact that Pyro's flames have started to not superheat the Sentinel's exterior, but actually start to melt it, sizzling, molten globs raining from the sky.]
Uhhh...John, [He looks up, pointing to the sentinel, it's exterior dripping down around them, the wires exposed beneath.] Maybe we should find some better cover...
no subject
Bobby speeds over to the other two, freezing and blasting aside any molten bits of Sentinel that threaten to hit his teammates. Soon he's just a few feet behind them, face strained as he moves faster to keep them all safe.]
Pyro, tone it down!
