Meg draws up the guts to approach Jono!

QUESTION: How cute are Meg and Jono?

ANSWER: See below.

Meg was sat in one of her favourite lessons, Mutant History, listening intently to what the teacher, Kurt, was saying. She was just about to pick up her pen and scribble some notes when she heard an audible sigh. Meg frowned and looked at Amara, who was sat next to her. Meg had noticed that Amara had been quiet and sullen for the past few days and had made it her aim to find some way to cheer her up. The only problem she had was how to go about it. Meg looked back round and her eyes caught Jono, who was sat at the desk in front. She had been meaning to talk to him for a while and an idea had just flashed into her head.

When class was dismissed for lunch, Meg said a hasty goodbye to Amara, who looked as sad as ever, spurring Meg on.

“Jono! Hey, wait up!” she yelled after Jono, but it was too late and he had already gone. He had a tendency to do that, she thought. Meg sighed and decided to go in search of Jono in the kitchen, where he usually was when Meg went to get her early morning cup of tea.

Meg burst into the kitchen, expecting to find Jono there, but he was nowhere to be seen. There were only a few students milling around, fixing themselves lunch and getting drinks. Meg sighed. She went out of the kitchen and stood on the hallway, as if expecting Jono to appear at any moment. Instead, Amara did.

“Oh, hi Meg. You took off quick. What are you up to?” Amara asked.

“Nothing, just this and that. Hey Amara, you wouldn’t know where Jono’s room is, would you?” Meg replied quickly, not wanting to give her plan away.

“Yeah, he’s in the basement, I think.” Amara told her. Meg smiled brightly.

“Thanks. I’ll see you later.” she said, and hurried away.

A few minutes later, Meg was stood in front of the open basement door, looking down at the stairs. Her wings were twitching and she was biting at her nails.

“Come on Meg. Just go down there. If you can move halfway across the world on your own, surely you can go down into a basement!” she hissed out loud to herself. After several more minutes of deliberating, Meg made an exasperated noise.

“I can’t do it. It’s too creepy.” she muttered, and whirled round, straight into the tall young English man she was looking for.

“Oof," Jono quickly said, before greeting her with, "Hi there Meg." Meg heaved a sigh of relief.

“I’m so glad I don’t have to go down there!” she gushed. Jono laughed in her head.

“What’s up?” he asked.

“Well, two things really. First off, I wanted to say I was sorry. About Thanksgiving, I mean. I was thinking about it and I realised that when I was talking to you, I must have been really annoying, going on about Mr Summers. So, I’m sorry.” Meg told him.

"Quite all right, really," Jono said, giving Meg a nod. "Everyone's entitled to a crush."

Meg blushed slightly, looking up at Jono with her head down a little bit. She looked so embarrassed that Jono actually chuckled and gave her a pat on the shoulder. He said, "Hey, at least he's single now, yeah? So at least I don't have to worry about you going round, singing (sings) glad I crashed the wedding..." (OOC note from Iris: get in on the in-joke!)

Meg burst out laughing, and sang along, "It's better than regretting!" Then, incredulously, she says, "You know Busted?! You?! But... but you're always just listening to that hard, heavy-metal... noise that you like!"

"Hey, hey -" Jono said defensively, holding a hand up. "They were like a national institution! Bloody difficult to miss if you ask me!"

"Right," Meg replied, with a smirk.

Jono pointed a finger at Meg and said accusingly, "Bet you fancied the bloke with the eyebrows."

"Did not!" Meg bristled, but she was smiling at Jono.

"I see right through you, sunshine," Jono concluded. Then, trying to change the subject, he said, "So? You said there were two things?"

“Oh yeah! I need your help.” she informed him.

“What with?” Jono asked.

“Amara’s been really down in the dumps lately and I’ve kind of made it my mission to find some way of cheering her up. I didn’t really know how, but then I remembered that we’re allowed to go out for lunch. Well, then I remembered that neither me or Amara could drive so I thought I was a bit stuck. And then I thought of you! I mean, you can drive and you and Amara get on well -"

"Me and her get on well?" Jono said. He looked a little taken aback by the sudden request, since he doesn't normally hang out with much of anyone. The basement he lives in has a natural "Keep Away" atmosphere about it, and most of the mansion's occupants have been quite good about it. "Truth be told, luv, I'm not so inclined to be a beast to anyone, so that's probably why. But I can't see her warming up to me right now."

"She's just not feeling great, is all," Meg insists. Then, she blurted out quickly, "And if you can put up with me rambling on then you’re one of the best people here, I think.”

Jono let out an awkward laugh as he looked away, and then finally said with slight reluctance, "Aww, rot... All right, all right."

"Yay!" Meg exclaimed, with a little jump.

Then, in a teasing voice, Jono said, "Just... let me know when you want to take her out, then, you little bugger."

"How does tomorrow sound?"

"Tomorrow it is, then. And you're sure this isn't just because I'm the resident Brit, is it?" Jono said.

Meg flapped her wings in mock annoyance and said, "Hey, no way! I meant what I said!"

Jono picked up his bag and began to walk down the stairs into the basement. As he left, he called out, "Well! Then, I guess I better get me some rest, prepare for the long journey ahead, sure to be ridden with tales of how soooooo very dreamy a certain cute teacher is..."

"HEY!" Meg calls down to the stairs.
