Bobby's aftermath threads

Content: There's a lot of things to deal with in the wake of the past couple of days...
Status: Open(ish) and incomplete

Okay, so, in order to preserve my sanity while I get back into the rhythm of things with class, I'm trying something a little different. This will work kind of like the day-in-the-life posts, except I'm just going to throw up a few comments for a few specific characters, and then a general "Bobby's in the kitchen eating ice cream; come say hi" one which anyone can tag into after that. =)

Comments will be in vague chronological order, but we all know that TIME IS IN FLUX at XMH, so it doesn't matter too much when this stuff happens!

[Okay. That's it. Bobby needs to blow off some steam. He's hungry and he needs to get out of the mansion. He needs some company who will be fine with just sitting and eating and talking about things that aren't war or the damage to the mansion or emotions or betrayal.

He grabs his keys and heads to the kitchen. Jono's there, looking in the fridge, just like Bobby knew he would be.]

Hey man, let's go out for wings. My treat.

[Jono straightens up, looks to Bobby with wide eyes, and immediately drops whatever he was going to take out of the fridge.]

I need chicken wings and beer.

[Bobby chuckles.] Yeah, I figured you might. I just need to get out of here. Come on, get your jacket.

[Jono's face is, as usual, mostly expressionless, but on the inside he's immensely relieved. In fact, he'd been thinking the same thing as Bobby - he really needs some guy time about now - so he runs up to his room to grab his coat and wallet and runs back down. He and Bobby head over to the garage.]

So... you really just go out for fried foods and choke out our arteries, or did you want to do some yelling, too? [Jono's tone is light, but there seems to be a touch of apprehension, too. Seems getting verbally by Emma, then Forge in succession took its toll on the Brit.]

I already did my yelling back in Vermont, remember?

[Bobby glances over at his friend as he pulls out of the garage, his expression a little unreadable. He's still a little vexed about Jono and Ali's rash decision, but he can't deny that they were a lot of help in the fight, and they've all come home safely. He knows why Jono did it. And Bobby can't help thinking that, when he had faced a similar situation, he hadn't been brave enough - maybe hadn't even cared enough - to do what Jono had done.

So he offers him a small smile and shrugs.]

I think you've probably suffered enough.

Heh. Guess so. On both counts.

[Jono looks at the troubled, fake-casual smile on Bobby's face and gives him a scrutinizing look. He wants to tell Bobby that he's here to listen if Bobby needs to talk about anything, but that's not really the reason why they're going out for chicken wings and beer. The point is to relax. So Jono lets it go.]

Rough week, eh?

[Bobby shoots him a wry look.]

Bit of an understatement. I think it's been a rough week for everyone.

[He turns his attention back to the road.]

At least it's over. And once the mansion gets fixed up - again - it'll be good to have life back to normal, as much as it ever is 'normal'.

Hmph. Yeah.

[Jono waves his hand dismissively at that comment.]

Yeah. That's been like... what, three times? Maybe more? That we've had to rebuild this place since I've been here. And I've not even been here as long as some others.

[Bobby smirks, shaking his head as he pulls into a parking space.]

Yeah, it's ridiculous. We're pretty much the builders' best buddies now. Maybe they're the real masterminds behind all the attacks - we're keeping their kids in college!

[A sly grin appears on Jono's face and he turns to face Bobby.]

Yes... that's been it all along! Mystery solved. But bloody hell, I'm quite afraid for our living situation after this one. The front of the mansion is a structural nightmare.

[As they enter the building, Bobby returns Jono's grin and pockets his keys.]

Maybe they should rebuild the place out of adamantium. That way it'll be indestrucible and all we've gotta do is watch out for Magneto and Polaris.

[Jono laughs and shakes his head as they enter the bar, and after they're seated, lists off a bunch of different flavors for his chicken wings.]

Trust me. You gotta try the hottest one they have on the menu.

[Bobby shrugs. He's long ago learned to trust Jono's opinion when it comes to food. The man is, after all, the expert.]

Sounds fine to me.

[As he settles back in his seat, he raises an eyebrow at Jono.]

So who else gave you a lecture?

Oh, God. [Jono moans and buries his face into his arms, resting on the table, for a short moment.]

Got quite the verbal beating coming home. First Emma -- that one was expected -- and then, would you know it, Forge. Bloody hell, is that bloke ever frightening. He must be the only person in the whole school taller than me, so of course he's the one staring me down.

Forge? [Bobby raises an eyebrow.] What did you do to Forge?

[Jono takes on a very defensive, "Who, me?!" look.] I didn't... do anything! Ahhhh, the poor man's just fucked off cause I ran off with his woman. [Jono then changes his tone to one a bit more serious, now.] Not even that kind of running off, either! I mean, you know why we ran off. Gah!

[Bobby can't help chuckling a bit at Jono's dramatics and lame explanation. He can't resist teasing him a little.] I feel for you, man. He's the kinda guy you definitely don't want eyeballing you, especially if he thinks you're slicker than you actually are.

Oh God, can you believe it? The one guy -- the one guy! -- who can tower over me and stare me down, and that's who Ali has to date so that he can come pick on me. Agh! It was terrible. I thought he was going to hit me. I need my nose, Bobs! To smell things! And... stuff!

Well, just try to avoid running off with Ali on harebrained schemes, and you'll be fine.

[Their food and beer arrives, and both boys fall upon the chicken wings eagerly.]

[The expression that appears on Jono's face is the usual one when he is greeted by a big platter of chicken wings (see icon). It takes some time for him to reply back because he's so busy eating now.]

Mate, I -- [chomp] -- don't know why he was so pissed at me. As if we were fooling around behind his back or something! Hah! And his lab! It practically makes no difference that we went in there -- I mean, I know we shouldn't have -- but then the whole place got wrecked by Porter. So really. This was unjust yelling.

[Bobby nearly chokes on a mouthful of beer.] You went into his lab?? [He shakes his head in disbelief and amusement.] You're a brave man, Starsmore. A brave, idiotic man.

[Jono shakes his head.] It was dumb. But did you not wonder how Ali and I found that headquarters? I was running a program on my computer to find out some possible locations, but couldn't narrow it down to one. And then, well... Ali had the keys to the lab, and... everybody had already left and we were stuck here and we just... Yeah, we figured using some info from Forge's workshop we could piece it all together and eliminate some of my search results. And it worked and we never touched anything else in there but I still feel like shit now, after having thought about it some more. [He sighs and chows down and more food to comfort himself.]

I hate feeling like such a lousy gonk for doing that to him.

[Bobby shrugs, taking a bite out of a wing.] Actions, consequences. Yada yada. [The good food and just being out of the mansion without responsibilities is causing him to loosen up a bit. A few hours ago, he'd probably have elaborated on why Jono should expect Forge to be mad, how he could have avoided it in the first place. But Bobby knows that Jono knows all this, so he just keeps chewing.]

Maybe just stay out of his way until you guys are fine again. Better hope nothing happens to that chestplate of yours.

I like that. "Actions, consequences, yada yada."

[Then he lets out a huff.] I think I best be staying out of Forge's way, yeah, you're right. Which sucks, because he's a great guy. It'd be shit if he and I couldn't be friends again after this.

[Bobby shrugs again, and has a sip of beer.] Forge is a good guy. I'm sure he won't stay mad forever. You guys will be fine.
