[John's sitting outside under a tree, reading the first book of The Dresden Files. (Don't be hatin'.) It's a bit chilly, but it's sunny and the leaves changing colors and falling is pretty. He's eating a buttered bagel sloppily, absorbed in the book.

'Cause he reads now or whatever.]

[Ali's shuffling around the grounds, smoking her first cigarette of the day, dragging her heels through some leaves and listening to an audiobook of Snow Crash. She never read much before, but she likes being read to. She spots John and walks over, pausing the book and looking down at him for a minute, making sure to flick her ashes in a direction that's not his.]

[Well if it isn't Ali, the chick he wanted to send to her death once upon a time. He looks up from his book, swallowing a huge gob of a bite. He's kind of just wondering what in hell and on earth she could want, talking to him.]

Just some- [He holds up the book, about to say it's something Kitty told him to read, but he pauses long enough to stop himself from saying so. He doesn't know why, but whatever. He just remembers their weird little exchange and doesn't feel like sharing any part of it.] -just some book. What brings you to my little slice of heaven?

[She shrugs, she hadn't really thought about why she came over, she just did. Her morning thus far has been pretty uneventful.]

Bored. I think Jono ate my slice of heaven for a midnight snack, so I'm trying to horn in on someone else's.

[Hah! Caught in the act. Kitty's just walking back from town, there's a coffee shop not too far from the mansion and she's decided to get caffeinated before the day begins. John reading The Dresden Files isn't exactly a sight she expected to see on her return. She pauses in the path - he hasn't seen her yet, she can easily go around the back and avoid interaction, but something draws her to not make an escape. Nothing wrong saying hi to a...friend? Kitty doesn't really know what to call him.] So you...decided to be a nerd? [Kitty's a few feet away from him now, kind of regretting this. It's too early for his snide remarks, so she sure hopes he's in a decent mood.]

[He's in an... okay mood, all things considered. And he kind of likes the book too. It's not boring. Maybe he blinks at Kitty in surprise for a moment after he looks up at the sound of her voice, but his surprise quickly transitions into his usual dull, bored look. She looks nervous or some shit, like he might snap at her, despite the almost friendly smile on her face. He can't even blame her. He's waiting for himself to snap at her too. Had been waiting that entire damn time in the library.

He straightens a little though, putting that little Twilight Zone encounter form his mind.]

[John's actually in the cafeteria. Shocker, right? He's coming out of his room and being up with the people more. Not really though because he's sure as hell sitting alone and not talking to anyone.

He's finished eating and tosses his lunch in the garbage from where he's sitting. Then he takes out his lighter to flick on and off. And does some people watching. No wonder everyone at this school gives him a wide girth. That's intimidating and creepy.]

[Rogue eating her soup at a table nearby his and she is most definitely rolling her eyes at his little act. John's lighter act does not impress her one bit. There's a complete and utter lack of intimidation.]

[John sees the eye roll and so what, he doesn't really care if he intimidates Rogue or not. He's not looking to intimidate. Just scoping out the people he hates. Rogue can go suck a fuck for all he cares, all right? It's why when he catches her looking and rolling her eyes, he simply settles in to stare at her evenly. While continuing to open and close his lighter.]

[Rogue stares right back, raising an eyebrow at him. The sound of the lighter is steadily getting more irritating. She knows she's probably going to be the one to snap first if history has any impact here. That just irritates her more.]

[Kevin's not eating lunch with the band today. He's become a little more withdrawn than usual - even for him - and avoiding people who tell him to cheer up, things are going to be okay, come on, don't be such a Debbie Downer! So he takes a seat across from his roommate, who is, quite possibly, the only person at this school who just leaves him be. And he, in turn, doesn't give John the "try being a little nicer" lecture.]

Man. We should just get pizza delivered to our room sometimes. Then we wouldn't have to eat here.

[Kevin gets a cursory glance from John, as he always does. He's noticed the kid's being more of a recluse lately, he does. And he... doesn't give a shit really. Or maybe he does. Okay, he does. But it's just because he knows where that road could lead, and with the Brotherhood... But whatever. He can keep an eye on the kid, no skin off his back. They live in the same room.]

[Kevin shrugs. He complains, sure, but he knows nobody's in the mood to listen to all of his troubles in great detail, so he plays it off like no big deal. Just a shrug.]

Yeah, just, too much small talk and socializing here. I think an extra large pizza delivered to our room would be way better than this.

[At that, the two roomies take a quick look around the buzzing cafeteria. Yeah, everyone seems to be having a pretty good time - people are chatting with each other, laughing at jokes... what a downer these two guys are.]

[John's alone in his room. Kevin is... somewhere. The door is open, but it's only ajar a little. If keeping your door wide open around the mansion is a way of saying "come on in," John keeping his door ajar means "I dare you to come in, asshole" because he's such a tough guy like that.

If you do come in, he's fucking around on Kevin's laptop. No porn though. He's even smiling at some shit he just read on reddit (http://www.reddit.com/).]

rec room times

[It's insane. John is in the rec room. Where people go to hang out. Don't be flipping your shit over it though, okay? He's just passing through to take the shortcut to the kitchen, because he skipped dinner.

Maybe he bumps into you, steps on your foot, or maybe you look at him the wrong way and he stops to verbally spit in your face.]

[Jono loves the rec room. He used to be a shut-in like John is now, but now he spends a ton of time in here, playing video games, watching sports (even though he hates baseball and American football, he likes to sit around and eat potato chips during them). Right now he's playing on his XBox and waves John over.]

[John stops, both of his eyebrows raising hiiiiigh. He even takes a moment to check behind himself just in case. But the giant tree kid is actually talking to him. Nay, inviting him to play some fucking game. John walks over a few steps just because this is too fucking bizarre not to investigate.

He's unsmiling, gesturing to Jono and then to himself. His tone suggests that Jono is either blind of stupid. Maybe both.]

[Now John is starting to look hostile. Jono is slightly taken aback, but it doesn't show much in his face. He's gotten pretty used to not making facial expressions, from the days he didn't have a mouth.]

[It doesn't take a genius to realize from Jono's tone that John's coming across as the jackass he is. However, now this guy has a poker face. Rogue should take notes.

And John should... back off or whatever. He breaks his curious, steady gaze, putting on a near smile. But it's not really much of one. John has the uncanny ability to smile and still be as unsettling as fuck. Jono's not someone he hates, or even has an opinion of. He's one of Kevin's buddies.]

I really, really love that "one of Kevin's buddies" is a good note in John's book

[At that, Jono gives him a grin. Sometimes Jono's smiles are a little forced, since he's still kind of getting the hang of facial expressions again, but some of them are automatic, like this one. He's kind of hoping right now that John might become another friend to have some guy time with -- Jono already can tell that John's not the touchy-feely, share-your-feelings type, and that is exactly why he'd be perfect for "guy time." He tosses John the extra controller.]

Great. I've got loads of co-op games that are just boring playing them on your own.
