[open thread] this is the skin of a killah~

Characters: Julian Keller, you. All are welcome, but separate threads, please. This ain't no group therapy session~ Julian can meet each person at a different time or something.
Setting: Outside, on one of the mansions trails.
Content: Julian's taking a jog which became a... half-hearted walk.
Status: Open and incomplete.

[Here's Julian, finally... running out of steam this week. It's been a few days since he helped Josh kill Kimura and frankly he's done nothing but train and pretend everything's okay since then. He's also surly and sarcastic if anyone's brought it up.

He went out for his daily jog, but halfway through it became a walk. So he's in his sweats and he's sweaty, walking the trail and just looking a bit miserable and pensive since he thinks he's alone.]

[BOY SCOUT TIMES. Just what Julian needs.]

Mr. Summers.

I thought that was you, I'm not used to seeing you take it easy. Something bothering you?

[Life in general? He makes a "yeah, everything" sigh and a "I guess we're really gonna do this" look.]

Not a thing. Tired.

Not surprising. I read the report that Bobby filed. You made some tough calls.

[Yeah, Julian's getting that. His voice is dry, faintly bitter, and sarcastic.] All in a day's work, right?

In our line of work - yeah, it is. It's the part nobody tells you about.

For what it's worth, you did a really good job.

Did a good job doing what, Mr. Summers? Not stopping Kevin from losing it, putting Laura's life on the line? Not having my best friend's back? Or helping hold down Kimura as Josh sucked the life out of her? What part was a good job?

(Don't wrap it up if you don't wanna!)

The part where all of those things happened, and everyone came back alive anyway. The part where nothing went according to plan, so you came up with a new one. Based on those parts, yeah, I think you did a damn good job.

[All this time, all Julian has wanted was for an X-man to say he was doing a good job--in training, on a mission--it just meant he was one step closer to his goals, to being an X-man. He stops and Scott does as well. The look in his eyes is hard and angry.]

You realize how fucked that is?

Julian -

[This is not the time to pull punches.]

No. Not fucked. It's complicated as shit, maybe, because you have to reconcile the ends with the means and that's not easy. But you also have to understand that when lives are on the line, it only takes one bad decision, one second guess, to get everyone killed. That's what's fucked.

Fine. I get it. I know. It was a decision and I made it. Me, Josh, Jono, Bobby. We did what we had to do to get everybody out in one piece and it worked.

[Julian pauses, hesitates, sucking in a breath. His eyes are still hard, and now they are also guilty. He's starting to think maybe putting a few eggs in Scott's basket isn't so bad. Maybe he'd understand.] But it wasn't hard. I didn't even blink.

Look, I know you don't want to hear this, but...that means you're doing it right, Julian.

[He feels satisfaction, pride even, that all the training and drills weren't for nothing, that they did what they were supposed to do. But he also knows what it's like to stand on the edge of the dark parts of himself that he didn't know existed.]

It makes you wonder what you're really capable of, doesn't it?

Yeah. Yeah, it does. [He deflates a little, his anger draining. He turns and starts to walk again, dragging a hand over his mouth.] What about you, Summers--Mr. Summers. What have you been capable of?

[It's a fair question, and Scott pauses for a few moments before following slowly behind Julian, mulling over his answer.]

I've done things I'm not proud of. To be honest, though...it's the things I wasn't capable of that keep me up at night.

LMAO. Of course Bobby filed the report. Of course. Haaaahahaha, he's such a good Boy-Scout-in-Training!

I hope that's okay! I just figured Bobby would have been the one they trusted most to get the details right. XD
