[Jono senses that something is wrong. He's still the same ol' Jono - he's never been very good at picking up on subtle emotional cues, but this time it's not too difficult. Even if it weren't for the fact that Bobby's eyes seem sadder than usual, and that he's staring blankly into his tub of ice cream, there's something else, too. Maybe Bobby doesn't want to talk about it out loud - or maybe he does - but Jono is picking up a lot of negative telepathic energy. Jono can tell that it's not something that Bobby is trying very hard to actively block. Either that, or Jono's getting marginally better.
He was going to make a root beer float for himself, but poking his head into the kitchen and seeing his friend sitting at the kitchen island like that, Jono decides to make it two. He plops a scoop of ice cream into each cup of root beer - splashing root beer all over the countertop of course - and slides one across to Bobby.]
