“Hey.” The greeting followed up on a knock on Forge’s open lab door. Rogue gave him a small somewhat forced smile. “Mind if I come in?”

Forge nodded, flashing her an easy smile as he gestured towards a free spot in the lab. “Sure, make yourself at home, girl.”

Rogue returned his smile with another strained one of her own as she carefully picked her way through the messy room towards the indicated seat. There was a small technological gadget that did something on the chair that she picked up carefully before sitting, studying it silently.

He glanced over at her for a brief moment before turning back to his own work, a curse slipping out as a part refused to budge. There were a few minutes of comfortable silence before he finally asked, “So what brings you down here?”

“You haven’t been upstairs lately, have you?” she asked with dry amusement. “IT’s been turned into a land of crazy. I don’t know how anyone can her themselves think.” She paused. “And it’s too damn well cold to go outside.”

“Down here does sound safer,” he agreed with a solemn nod. Forge nodded towards the gadget in her hands. “You hopin’ that’ll fix itself just by being turned ‘round?”

“What?” Rogue looked up with a start, hands stilling. “Oh, no. Sorry; nervous habit.” There was another brief pause before she looked at him curiously. “Does your mutation just help you build things or does it help you know how to fix them too?”

Forge frowned. “I’m not sure. Probably just the creating? It probably doesn’t hurt when I’m fixing broken speakers every three days.”

There was a look of momentary confusion on Rogue’s face. “Ohhh, right. Ali.” The confusion vanished as she fell quiet again, replaced by silent contemplation.

Pretty neat, huh? [Forge takes the tech from her, turning it over in his hands, examining her handiwork.] Very nice. Next step would be refab with improvements...
