[SCENE] Amara and Meg

Meg was currently lay on Amara's floor in a sleeping bag, staring up at the ceiling. Her room was one of those which had suffered damage, so for the past few nights, she'd been camping on Amara's floor.

"I heard about what happened." Amara commented.

"What? That Sentinel attacking the school? Yeah, I think I heard about that too." Meg replied, dryly. Amara half-smiled.

"I didn't see it, but I heard you did a disappearing act." she continued. Meg groaned and put her head in her hands.

"You wouldn't believe the amount of people I've had to describe it to. And I don't even know what really happened myself! I didn't know I could... teleport or whatever. I'm not completely convinced that I did, but there's no other explanation." she replied. Amara shrugged.

"Stranger things have happened," she pointed out. "I wouldn't be at all surprised."

"Especially at this place." Meg mumbled. Meg had been staying in Amara's room for a few days now, so they had spoken at length about what had happened, but neither of them had really come to terms with it. Amara suddenly rolled onto her side and looked down at Meg with a grin.

"Hey, you didn't have to postpone your date with Jono, did you?" she asked. Meg laughed.

"No offence, but isn't that the least thing about this weekend you should be thinking about?" she teased. Amara rolled her eyes.

"I need some good news. Besides, you can't call it a date until you've told your best friend every single detail." she insisted.

"Funny, I don't remember ever hearing that rule." Meg grinned.

"Oh come on! Just tell me!" Amara finally got impatient.

"We did go out, before it all happened. We went to see a film and then for dinner afterwards." Meg said.

"From the look on your face, I'm guessing you enjoyed it." Amara commented, smiling. Meg smiled too.

"Am I that transparent? I had a great time. Oh, and you know Julian's Lamborghini? Well, Jono managed to borrow it off him for the evening! It was amazing!" she gushed. Amara laughed.

"See, Julian isn't as bad as you think." she replied.

"Okay. I'm not too proud to admit that he might be slightly nicer than I give him credit for." Meg agreed. Amara looked satisfied with that.

"So, did anything important happen?" she asked, raising an eyebrow and smirking. Meg's cheeks lit up.

"Well... we kissed." she replied.

Amara stared at her for a moment, pausing, before she replied, ecstatic. "Meg! Why didn't you inform me sooner!?" she exclaimed, sitting up in her bed, legs crossed indian-style. Meg rolled her eyes.

"Well, it was a big deal to me, but my relationship with Jono hasn't exactly been at the forefront of everyone's minds at the moment." she replied, with a grin. Amara raised an eyebrow again. Meg covered her mouth in shock. "I was being sarcastic. I'm not usually sarcastic. What's wrong with me?!" Amara laughed.

"I'm guessing you're just happy enough to laugh at me." she replied.

She chuckled again, pulling one of her pillows into her lap, leaning forward. "Well you're the one being silly," she paused, smile filtering, sobering. "And it does matter, Meg. You and Jono finally spending some real time together is incredibly important. Maybe it's not world-shattering important, but it's important." Amara smirked, adding in a continuance, "Besides, you can blame Julian for me actually laughing and feeling a bit better about what happened." She smiled, fingers playing with her pillow cover.

"Well... you know I'm not his biggest fan, but if he's made you feel better, I'm glad." Meg replied. "Is he okay? I heard he passed out or something."

"He's fine. He's demanding that we build him a statue for his heroic efforts. And since when did you care about him?" Amara asked, a smile on her face as she remembered her last conversation with Julian. Meg shrugged.

"I don't like him, but I don't want him to, y'know, die or something. I'm not that mean."

Amara laughed. "I know you're not that mean, Meg," she half-shrugged with another laugh. "It's just that to some people, he's really not their favourite person." Pausing, she flipped her pillow over. "What about Jono?"

"He's fine. Without a chest and jaw at the moment, but fine." Meg smiled. "How about Bobby?"

Amara frowned slightly at the thought of Jono returning to his past state, but still glad to hear that he was well. "He's okay, I think. We... we really haven't talked about it all that much. What I mean is, we've talked about it, but not really about, you know, what we're feeling about it and all that," she shrugged, fingers pulling at one another.

"But... you've talked to Julian about how you feel about it." Meg stated.

"Only sort of," Amara retorted hastily, brushing the subject off. Meg decided not to pursue the subject any further, but cast a suspicious eye over Amara's flustered expression.

"So," Amara broke into the slight pause. "Do you know if John's okay? I heard that he was out, too." Meg frowned.

"We were evacuating some of the children, with Warren, but the roof caved in and I didn't see either of them after that. But... Josh is pretty good at healing people, I'm sure he's looked after anyone who got hurt. And no-one's... died, which is the most important thing." she replied.

Amara nodded, putting her pillow back and lying down onto her side, and she continued to look at Meg as she spoke, pulling her blanket up over her arms. "I just got really scared that, you know... I don't want that to happen again," she whispered, voice gentle, but almost sad.

"It was scary. I plan on it being a good long time before I see anything like that again, though, so don't worry about it." Meg replied, trying to get her friend to smile. It worked a little. Amara smiled and her eyes fell closed comfortably for a moment before they opened back halfway.

"Thanks, Meg."

"You look tired." Meg commented. Amara raised her eyebrows.

"Gee, thanks!" she muttered, good-naturedly. Meg smiled.

"I was only hinting. It's pretty late and I'm guessing there's going to be a lot to do in the morning." she explained. Amara nodded.

"We probably should get some sleep." she agreed. Amara was more tired than she had thought.

"Thanks again for letting me crash here." Meg murmured, sounding sleepy too.

"You're welcome. Again." Amara mumbled. The room fell quiet for the rest of the night.
