[SCENE] JAMESIE, Julian, and Beast!
“You really wear that thing?”
Julian didn’t seem to find offense at his brother’s amused comment at his uniform, pulling on his gloves and not slowing his pace, replying with a flat, “yes.”
“Doesn’t it... well, doesn’t it ride?” James asked, suppressing a twitching smile.
Julian didn’t answer, choosing instead to look over to James with a raised eyebrow. “Don’t you have some place to be?”
“Yes,” he answered haughtily, buttoning his suit jacket, “you’re taking me there, little brother.”
“Right,” Julian rolled his eyes and they continued to walk down the basement hall in mutual silence. “So, you really wear that thing?”
“What thing?”
“That thing on your face?”
“What thing on my face-?” He asked again, reaching up a hand to touch his cheeks and finding nothing.
Julian laughed suddenly, nearly slapping his knee. “So fucking easy... every time.”
James threw a glower in his brother’s direction, shaking his head. “That was funny when we were about ten years younger, Julian.”
“Yeah, and you shouldn’t be falling for it after ten years, Harvard boy,” he pointed out and then gestured to the door they had just passed, stopping. “Doc’s office is right there.”
“Yeah, thanks,” James rolled his eyes as Julian slapped his arm in farewell, chuckling down the hall, before facing the door with some thought.
Dr. Hank McCoy, it read.
He knocked shortly, smoothing back his hair and waiting for an answer of some kind, tapping his toes. He was just about to knock again when the door swung open, a short hairy beast covered in blue fur and glasses slightly askew on the other side.
“Ah!” He announced, ushering James inside. The room was a large lab, filled with tubes and Bunsen burners, shelves of books and an odd-looking life-sized tub of something green in a far corner. “You must be Mr. James Keller,” he assumed, a smile spreading across his face, every bit of it reminding James of a Cheshire cat.
“Uh, yes,” he replied, shaking the mutant’s offered hand.
“Emma and Ororo have been mentioned you to me, obviously,” he said, venturing further into the room. Off to the side was a large desk with a computer and comfortable sitting chairs, one James took seat in at Hank’s urging. “Excuse the slight mess, please,” he said politely, waving a blue hand to the lab, the desk. “I use the labs down here as my second office and while cleanliness is imperative in a lab, sometimes I get away with myself with the paperwork and books...”
“I understand,” James replied simply. “My parents have left me a considerable piece of responsibility to start off with while they prepare to retire,” he sympathized, “sometimes there’s no time. Which is why I have an assistant,” he added with a slight laugh.
“Oh? An assistant? Lord knows I could use one. I have some studying students help me down here, but as classes are out and it’s summer...” He trailed off, nodding as he sat with a small smile.
“I trust one of those students is not my brother.”
“Aha, Julian,” Hank said, finally fixing his glasses carefully. “Yes, I prefer there to be some supervision while he is around my expensive equipment. Bright boy, however. Earns high marks. A bit outspoken. He could do even better if he tried.”
“He only really tries if it’s something he wants,” James smirked, the expression reflecting his brother’s slightly. “But I, uh-” He stopped. “What may I call you...?”
“Ah, ‘there was no respect for youth when I was young, and now that I am old, there is no respect for age- I missed it coming and going,’” he quoted. “I’ve found an exception. Doctor or Doctor McCoy is fine.”
“Priestly,” James bowed his head.
Hank rose his eyebrows, unable to hide his surprise and delight. “You know Priestly?”
“Light reading,” James replied and Hank nodded back. “Though to get to business,” he started, leaning forward, “Doctor, the truth of this matter is that it’s interfering with my work-”
“Yes, yes,” Hank said, “I’ve been told of your concerns, Mr. Keller, but my concerns are more to do with your knowledge.”
“My knowledge?” He questioned, almost sounding affronted.
“The brain has the sort of potential you nor I can try to grasp, Mr. Keller,” he leaned back, looking back at the fellow mutant from under blue eyebrows, “this... noise you are hearing concerns me because Emma was unable to detect what it was in your mind, and from what she gathered it was not from your mind.”
“Ororo,” he started, blushing delicately at her name on his tongue, “mentioned technopathy... the ability to communicate with computers, electronics... the like.”
Hank nodded. “Some technopaths have experienced something similar to the noise you are hearing, but I’d like to do some painless scans and tests before we ‘jump the gun,’ sort of speak, to be sure. It’s quite possible this noise is something completely different and if I can find out how it is affecting you, perhaps we can find out exactly what it is,” he smiled, weaving his fingers together.
“Sounds fair,” James responded with a nod.
“Wonderful!” Hank replied, narrowing his eyes. “Now, before we schedule another appointment, about Priestly...”

Hahahaha! I love Julian and James together. And we haven't seen much of Doc McCoy lately. And James' head sounds interesting.
Great scene. :)
