Mutant History Assignment #1

Assignment #1

Pick a well-known historical figure from any period of time, and speculate on why you think they might have been a mutant.

GRIGORI RASPUTIN

Real name Grigori Yefimovich Novyh, and actual birthdate unknown, Grigori Rasputin is said to be a major contributor to the downfall of the autocracy in Russia in the early 1900's, and many believed him to be a psychic and faith healer.

In 1903 Rasputin arrived in Petrograd (modern day St. Petersberg) and quickly gained a reputation of starets (or holy man) with healing and prophetical powers, which gives me the impression he may have been a mutant.

He soon came to hear that the Tsarina's son, Alexei, suffered from the dreadful disease of haemophilia. In 1905 the Tsarina asked him to come to the palace, and it was said he possessed the ability to heal through prayer, although some skeptics claimed he did so by hypnosis. The Tsar and his wife believed Rasputin to be a 'man of God', which again, enhances the idea of his homo superiority and it is agreed he might have effectively improved the health of their son everytime he visited the royal family.

Whilst Tsar Nicolas II was commanding the Russian army, Rasputin seemed to have even more of an influence and power over the Tsarina. It was even rumoured they had an affair! His controversial ways caused many to dislike him, and even to the point of assassination. The death of Rasputin has become legend, and it is said that some officials gave him wine and cake laced with cyanide, but after consumption he did not die. As the Boney M's song "Rasputin" says: They put some poison into his wine... He drank it all and he said "I feel fine". This greatly says to me, if he was a mutant, he had the ability to heal himself, like the Wolverine.

In the end Rasputin was shot many times, badly beaten and thrown into the icy river Neva. An autopsy revealed he died from drowning, however the autopsy also found that he was poisoned, and that the poison alone should have killed him but didn't.

It is due to all the reasons above that I believe Grigori Rasputin might have been a mutant.

Sorry if it was a bit long, sir.
