[SCENE] LAURA AND KITTY! <3
Laura opened the door to her room, mindful of the hushed sound of crying behind the slab of wood. Purposely, she let it creak inward and then stepped half-way inside, emerald eyes resting on a huddled form covered in blankets.
"Kitty?" she asked quietly.
The soft sounds stopped, and Kitty's messy head of hair poked up, her eyes rimmed red and her lips wobbling. Her face was flushed and her eyelashes wet and tangled.
"What?" Kitty mumbled, voice sounding as if she had a cold. She was torn in between despair and hope, the shocked part of her leaning towards the latter. Of course John would come back to her- He always had, right? She was ignoring the small voice in her head that suggested that this time he might not want to be found.
"Laura, please go away." Kitty pleaded quietly, turning away from her friend to face the other side of the wall, snuggling her head beneath the blankets.
"You have not left your bed in thirty-eight hours," Laura replied calmly, stepping inside and shutting the door. "You need to get up and eat something."
"I don't want anything." Kitty said pathetically, muffled from the covers. She did want something- or rather, someone, but Laura couldn't give that to her. "Go away." She repeated, sounding almost defeated.
"No," Laura said matter-of-factly. "You will get up or I will make you." The dark-haired girl walked around Kitty's bed, and tugged at the covers; against Kitty's strength, Laura pulled the sheets easily away.
Kitty's chin quivered dangerously to the point where it looked as if she was about to burst into tears, but she steeled herself and looked Laura stubbornly in the eyes. "No. I'm not going anywhere."
"I will carry you," she answered plainly.
"I will kick you." Kitty replied in what she hoped (but probably wasn't) a threatening tone.
"You will not hurt me."
"I could if I kicked you hard enough."
"I heal quickly," she said simply, sitting down on the edge of the bed and twisting to look blankly down at her friend--she had been a very emotional since John Allerdyce had left, and Laura knew it was affecting her overall wellbeing. "I will bring you food if you will not let me carry you."
Kitty's face almost crumbled at Laura's words, the reality that John was gone- gone- slowly sinking in. "Okay." she replied in a small voice, wiping at her eyes and nodding, hoping her hair served as a shield from the tears that she didn't want Laura to see. "Okay."
"I will get you food," Laura said and walked to the door, feeling a fraction of relief--she now knew that emotion was relief, that short unraveling of her nerves--that Kitty had agreed. She rushed down the steps quickly and into the cafeteria, grabbing a box and piling helpings and second helpings into the large Styrofoam tray. She took utensils and napkins and left just as quickly as she had come.
It wasn't as if she was avoiding being stopped by anyone--her only friend was Kitty, after all. But she felt a bit of urgency to return to the room. Kitty needed to eat something.
She returned without knocking, balancing the food in one arm and handing the box to Kitty as she reluctantly sat up.
Kitty forced a half-hearted smile in Laura's direction, pushing disheveled hair from her eyes as she glanced down at the tray. "Thanks."
